Department of Information Technology, Physics and MathematicsHistory |
The history of Department of Information Technology, Physics and Mathematics began in 1997 when first students started their training for "Software for automated systems" speciality at the Kherson branch of the Ukrainian State Maritime Technical University (since 03/25/2004 - Kherson branch of the National University of Shipbuilding). Since very beginning Ph.D., Associate Professor Dudchenko O.M. has been the head of the Department. But the very Department was organized by Order of the Rector of 12/31/2003.
In 2015, due to the structural changes in a branch, by the NUS rector's order of 05/12/2015 № 781К the Department of Information Technologies was combined with the Department of Physics and Mathematical disciplines and on their base created the Department of Information Technologies, Physics and Mathematics.
Director of the Kherson Branch Anatoliy V. Lomonosov as well as Professor Konstantin V. Koshkin who was the head of Department of Information Technology at the University in Mykolaiv then and pro-rector Oleksandr Y Yeganov who supported the administration of the Kherson branch contributed a lot to the organization of the department.
The contribution in the development of the department of prof. Igor I. Kovalenko, prof. Yurij Korol, Ph.D. Victor I. Timofeev, Ph.D. Victor F. Tymoshenko, Ph.D. Michael G. Sokolik, senior lecturers Anatoliy G. Marchenko and Fedir V. Tolstoy from Mykolaiv and the academic staff of the Kherson Branch: prof. Boris M. Politykin, Ph.D. Olena S. Manoylenko, s. lecturer Ludmila P. Shpak cannot be overestimated. Now Svetlana O. Karpova and Olga M. Kornelyuk, the graduates of the Department, completed their postgraduate courses and work at the Department.
The field of training "Software Engineering" is one of the 'youngest' of the Kherson Branch. But in spite of this our students and graduates demonstrate good skills in programming, working both in Kherson and other cities of our country.

The peculiarity of shipbuilding is that this is probably one of the most sophisticated fields. The most powerful software systems were created in the shipbuilding and aviation industries. I'm sure many people have heard of the system TRIBON, FORAN. Even IBM has established a major center for the development in the shipbuilding field (IBM Shipbuilding Competency Center) and its software (CATIA system) was designed for shipbuilders.
Nowadays we are witnessing the extensive development of new technologies. CALS and PDM technologies are developing in the United States, Japan, Canada, UK, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Australia, Russia and other countries, including Ukraine. They are now being implemented in military-industrial complex, in aircraft and shipbuilding. All this open a boundless field of application for the programmers.
Starting from the second year of studying our students develop their course projects. The area of research isn’t limited within shipbuilding. They can suggest the topics they are interested in. The topics can vary from banking, private companies and travel agencies to game technologies or solution of various engineering problems etc.
One cannot imagine modern life without computers. Our students of different specialities study computer science too. They can choose what they want to study – it can be AutoCAD, 1C Accounting software, databases etc. Our computer centre is open to all who wants to use computers 12 hours a day, 6 days a week!
